Abstract
This data represents LiDAR elevation information for Dodge County, WI in 2017. The following derivative products are available: classified LAS, 2-foot contours, hydro breaklines, and a countywide DEM. Also included for Dodge County are "boundary" (Boundary.shp), and "raster hillshade" (Hillshades.gdb).For project level: [WI Dodge County Lidar 2017 B17 Data Acquisition and Processing Production Task USGS Contract No. G16PC00022 Task Order No. G17PD00370 Woolpert Order No. 77511 CONTRACTOR: Woolpert, Inc. This task is for a high resolution data set of lidar covering approximately ±907 square miles of Dodge County along with a 100-meter buffer zone outside the county for the lidar data. The lidar data was acquired and processed in compliance with U.S. Geological Survey National Geospatial Program Lidar Base Specification version 1.2. Lidar at a nominal pulse spacing (NPS) of 0.7 meters. Data is a remotely sensed high resolution elevation data collected by an airborne platform. The lidar sensor uses a combination of laser range finding, GPS positioning, and inertial measurement technologies. The lidar systems collect data point clouds used to produce highly detailed Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of the earth's terrain, man-made structures, and vegetation. WI Dodge County Lidar 2017 B17 task order was processed and delivered in NAD 1983 2011 WISCRS Dodge and Jefferson Feet. Final products include; LAS swath data, classified LAS tiles, raster DEMs of the bare-earth surface in IMG and ArcGrid format, and 8-bit gray scale intensity images. Tiled deliverable products conform to a 4,500 ft x 4,500 ft tiling. Each LAS file contains lidar point information, which has been calibrated and controlled. Additionally, each tiled LAS file was classified per task order requirements. Final deliverables also include hydrologic breakline data, survey control and checkpoint data, bridge abutment breaklines, lidar processing and survey reports in PDF format, FGDC metadata files for each data deliverable in .xml format, and a project tile index all provided in Esri format. Ground conditions: Lidar was collected in April of 2017, while no snow was on the ground and rivers were at or below normal levels. In order to post process the lidar data to meet task order specifications and meet ASPRS vertical accuracy guidelines, Woolpert established a total of 15 ground control points that were used to calibrate the lidar to known ground locations established throughout the project area. Additional independent accuracy checkpoints were collected (58 NVA points and 48 VVA points) and used to assess the vertical accuracy of the data. The data was developed based on a horizontal projection/datum of NAD 1983 2011 WISCRS Dodge and Jefferson Survey Feet and vertical datum of NAVD88 (GEOID12B), Survey Feet. Lidar data was delivered as; flightline-extent raw LAS v1.4 swaths, classified point cloud LAS v1.4 files formatted to 1351 individual 4,500’ x 4,500’ tiles in NAD 1983 2011 WISCRS Dodge and Jefferson Survey Feet. Derivatives were produced as tiled; Bare Earth Surface DEMs, Intensity Images; all tiled to the same 4,500’ x 4,500’ schema. Purpose
This data is intended for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [The Dodge County Wisconsin QL2 Lidar 2017 project was collected in April 2017. The lidar data will deliver benefits and provide transformational data necessary to gain a better understanding of current topographic conditions within the 907 square mile county. This high-resolution QL2 lidar dataset addresses several state functional activites including: flood-risk management, infrastructure and construction management, urban and regional planning, natural resources conservation, water supply and quality, cultural resources preservation and management, wildlife habitat management, renewable energy resources, resource mining, agriculture and precision farming, and telecommunications.]

[USGS Contract No. G16PC00022 CONTRACTOR: Woolpert, Inc. ] Bare Earth Points: Bare earth LiDAR is digital elevation data of the terrain surface consisting of irregularly spaced points, each with x/y location coordinates and z-value. The data have been subjected to automated and manual editing to remove vegetation, buildings, and other man-made structures. Classified LAS: Point classification using semi-automated techniques on the point cloud to assign the feature type associated with each point. Lidar points can be classified into a number of categories including bare earth or ground, top of canopy, and water. The different classes are defined using numeric integer codes in the LAS files. Contours: A line through all contiguous points of equal elevation value. Contours are vector features used to represent the elevation of a landscape in a relatively familiar way. They are typically used for basemaps and general topographic representation. Derived Terrain: A vector data set composed of regularly spaced points and natural features such as ridges and breaklines. A DTM augments a DEM by including linear features of the bare-earth terrain. Hydro Breaklines: Breaklines maintain the definition of water-related features in an elevation model. They are used to capture linear discontinuities in the surface, lake shorelines, single-line drains for small rivers, and double-line drains for large rivers. [Breakline File Type = GDB Breakline Elevation Units = U.S. Feet Downhill Treatment Applied = Monotonic Type of Hydro Treatment Required = Hydro-flattened] Countywide Digital Elevation Model (DEM): A DEM represents the bare-Earth surface, removing all natural and built features. The dataset contains a single file covering the entire county. Tiled Digital Elevation Model (DEM): A Digital Elevation Model (DEM) represents the bare-Earth surface, removing all natural and built features. The data contains (possibly) hundreds of individual files available to download as small tiled geographic areas over the extent of an entire county. [Raster File Type = IMG Bit Depth/Pixel Type = 32-bit float Raster Cell Size = 2.5 U.S. Feet Interpolation or Resampling Technique = Triangulated Irregular Network Required Vertical Accuracy = 19.6 cm NVA] Digital Surface Model (DSM): A Digital Surface Model (DSM) captures both the natural and built/artificial features of the environment.
