This data set is a digital soil survey and generally is the most detailed level of soil geographic data developed by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. The information was prepared by digitizing maps, by compiling information onto a planimetric correct base and digitizing, or by revising digitized maps using remotely sensed and other information. This data set consists of georeferenced digital map data and computerized attribute data. The map data are in a soil survey area extent format and include a detailed, field verified inventory of soils and miscellaneous areas that normally occur in a repeatable pattern on the landscape and that can be cartographically shown at the scale mapped. A special soil features layer (point and line features) is optional. This layer displays the location of features too small to delineate at the mapping scale, but they are large enough and contrasting enough to significantly influence use and management. The soil map units are linked to attributes in the National Soil Information System relational database, which gives the proportionate extent of the component soils and their properties. Soils 1. Map Accuracy Unknown 7. Map Currency 1971 8. Coverage Waukesha County Building Limitations 1. Description A definition query was performed on each of the limitations using the soils database. In order to avoid duplication of features from three soil types (Pm, RkE & RlA), the erase function was used from ArcToolbox. By erasing the Depth to Bedrock from the the <1 Foot to Water Table, the result of that process erased from the <3 Feet to Water Table and finally that result erased from the Percent Slope, a heirarchy was established. In order of priority: <1 Foot to Water Table, <3 Feet to Water Table, Shallow Bedrock and Slopes >12%. Depth to Seasonal High Water Table 1. Description Soil polygons displayed, by color, according to the DEPTH_TO_WATER_TABLE value field of the soils database. Depths were combined to create a specific range. Hydric Classification 1. Description Soil polygons displayed according to the HYDRIC_CODE value field of the soils database. Hydric and Hydric Inclusions were then color coded. Hydrologic Soil Group (Native Condition) 1. Description Soil polygons displayed according to the HYDRIC_SOIL_GROUP value field of the soils database. The different soil groups were then color coded. Dual Hydrologic Groups (A/D, B/D & C/D) represent drained and undrained conditions. D was designated for these groups to represent the native condition of the soil. Hydrologic Soil Group (Native Condition) 1. Description Soil polygons displayed according to the HYDRIC_SOIL_GROUP value field of the soils database. The different soil groups were then color coded. Dual Hydrologic Groups (A/D, B/D & C/D) represent drained and undrained conditions. D was designated for these groups to represent the native condition of the soil. Percent Slope 1. Description Soil polygons displayed, by color, according to the SLOPE_PERCENT value field of the soils database. Slope percentages were combined to create a range. Stormwater Infiltration Potential 1. Description Stormwater Infiltration Potential within Waukesha County. Land Capability Class 1. Description Soil polygons displayed according to the LAND_CAPABILITY_CLASS value field of the soils database. Capability classes were then grouped and color coded. Soils Parent Material 1. Description This layer shows generalized soil composition groups based on parent material Surface Textures 1. Description Soil polygons displayed, by color, according to the SURFACE_TEXTURE value field of the soils database. Sandy Soils = Course Sand, Fine Sand, Fine Sandy Loam, Gravelly Sand and Loamy Sand. Loamy Soils = Loam and Sandy Loam. Silty Loam Soils = Silt Loam. Clayey Soils = Clay, Silty Clay and Silty Clay Loam. Muck Soils = Muck.
