Description:

This dataset shows trees managed by cities, villages, and towns in Wisconsin, mostly composed of trees along road rights-of-way. It was built from tree inventories provided by the local units of government. These and additional inventories can be seen in the Wisconsin Community Tree Map, where new or updated inventories will be first submitted. This layer hosted on ArcGIS Online was derived from data stored on that tree map on October 8, 2024 and will be updated annually.Each community collects data relevant to their management needs. Because these are unique to each location, there is a lot of variation in the kind of data available from one inventory to the next. This dataset only includes fields available and relatively comparable across many communities. Even so, some fields within this dataset will be unoccupied for certain communities. However, species, diameter, and location are universally used and are available for the vast majority of the trees in this dataset Because of the disparate sources of these data, accuracy is unknown, though most inventories were professionally completed and accuracy is assumed to be high. The "Inventory Year" field does not necessarily reflect when that particular tree was visited, and should be used with caution. Nonetheless, communities with most of their trees last coded to 2010 or prior were removed. Inquiries into this dataset or the Wisconsin Community Tree Map can be made to daniel.buckler@wisconsin.gov.
