- Abstract
- This data represents boundaries for Cooperative Educational Service Agencies within the state of Wisconsin at year's end in 2023.[Cooperative Educational Service Agencies are intermediate service agencies that provide programs, services, and resources to a region of school districts in the state of Wisconsin. This dataset was assembled using county-derived school district boundary data and school district information from the Department of Public Instruction website. Each year, there is a chance for reorganizations to take place that either transfer territory between school districts or consolidate/dissolve/create districts. These reorganizations go into effect on July 1st of each year. Sometimes reorganizations involve CESA boundaries as territory transfers between school districts located in two different CESAs. In 2021, there were no reorganizations that caused changes to CESA boundaries. The E8 database contains a collection of all uniquely identifiable local-level PLSS data available in digital format, and aggregates that data into a standardized schema and format. It also includes section, quarter-section, and quarter-quarter-section level polygons. The construction of the PLSS corner locations contained within the database relies on the local level coordinate information. This unique aspect of the database, allows for an accurate representation of the on-the-ground location of the PLSS corners.]
- Purpose
- This data is intended for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [This polygon layer contains the twelve Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs) within the state of Wisconsin in 2021-2022. E4_PLSS_corners layer contains a collection of all valid local level PLSS data available in digital format and aggregates that data into a standardized schema and format.]

- Statement
- This layer is the result of aggregation procedures implemented over school district boundary data provided by Wisconsin's 72 counties. Each public school district in Wisconsin is located in one of twelve Cooperative Educational Service Agencies. CESA attribute information was first included in the Unified School Districts, Wisconsin 2018 and Secondary School District, Wisconsin 2018 layers. The two layers were merged into a single layer and then dissolved based on CESA number resulting in this final layer. Official school district boundary changes that occur across CESA boundaries are updated annually around July 1. The two school district boundary layers that are the basis for this layer are the result of aggregation procedures implemented over school district boundary data provided by Wisconsin's 72 counties. The original statewide layers for unified and secondary school districts were developed using county school district boundary data submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) in 2017. In some places, these boundaries reflected school district information from tax parcels, in other places they did not. In 2020, the entire statewide layer was modified to wholly reflect the most recently released tax parcel data which is maintained at the county level. Note: Version 2.0 and all versions from 2017 contain an error where the Mount Horeb Area School District was attributed to CESA 3 instead of 2. This error was corrected in version 2.1 and is correct in all layers since.
