Abstract
This dataset includes active and inactive solid waste landfills and known historic waste site points. A point showing the general location of the landfill or polygon centroid can be found in the dataset called Solid Waste- Landfills and Historic Waste Site Points. At this time, most of the landfills and known waste sites’ boundaries are mapped as a polygon. The remaining sites are in the process of being mapped. This dataset represents the latest updates and is updated frequently.
Purpose
This data is intended for reference and mapping purposes, and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production, or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [Polygon representation of approximate extent of solid waste landfills and known historic waste sites.]

LANDFILL DATA: This Geographic Information System (GIS) landfill data consist of points that represent each site’s approximate point location. Landfill GIS point locations should not be solely relied upon to make compliance decisions. For an accurate depiction of the landfill boundary, please see information contained in the DNR's landfill file located at one of the DNR regional headquarters across the state.Landfill GIS locations may be used by well drillers and the DNR Drinking Water and Groundwater Program to help identify the general location of the landfill and to assist in whether a well variance may be needed from ch. NR 812, Wis. Adm. Code, minimum setback distance of 1,200 feet from a landfill. Because the 1,200-foot setback required by ch. NR 812, Wis. Adm. Code is based on the landfill footprint, the landfill point location should not be used to determine compliance with setback distance requirements.QUALITY ASSURANCE: The quality assurance (QA) review of this data is ongoing. For the sites that have gone through the QA review process, the QA date is indicated in the QA_REVIEWE column. Access to and use of data obtained from the Department of Natural Resources ("Department") is provided subject to these terms and conditions.PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY AS USE OF THIS DATA CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITYNeither the Department of Natural Resources, nor any of its programs nor any of its employees shall be held liable for any improper or incorrect use of the information described and/or contained herein and assumes no responsibility for anyone's use of the information.
